Tiny homes, amazing homes – all from shipping containers
The popularity of tiny homes has exploded during the last decade! Builders have been designing and constructing 300-square-foot homes as accessory dwelling units or even stand-alone homes on a piece of property.
Because of their durability, shipping containers can be the ideal basis for a tiny house. A 40-foot shipping container comes in at just around 300-square feet. All shipping containers are 8-feet-wide on the outside, so interior sizes can slightly vary depending on wall thickness, insulation, and other factors. High-cube containers are 9 ½ feet tall, 12 inches taller than standard containers, which allows you to build in more overhead storage.
Or consider combining a number of shipping containers into an ultra-modern house!
The states of Maryland and Pennsylvania allow shipping container homes, BUT you still need to contact your city or county planner to see if it’s possible. You will still need to follow all zoning and building codes and additional regulations, including:
Foundations
Utilities (electricity/plumbing)
Setbacks
Ceiling heights
Primary/accessory zoning
And more
These waterproof, weatherproof containers can also be modified into offices, storage sheds, an extension to the garage, a home storage container, to store excess inventory and more!
In Frederick, MD, Warehouse Cinema has incorporated then into the interior design.
